Campus Visits

There is no better way to learn about a potential college than to experience it for yourself.

Try to schedule visits when colleges are in session so you can get a sense of campus life. This step in the journey is crucial because the college you are looking at could be vastly different from your hometown. Check out CollegeBoard’s Campus Visit Guide and this college visit Q&A as you prepare for your visits. If the college is far away and requires extensive travel, contact the school’s admissions office. In some instances, colleges can help applicants pay for travel to their campus.

College Fairs

College fairs are also a great way to learn about colleges and speak to admission counselors. Seek out local college fairs and college representatives if they come to visit your school.  Visit the National Association for College Admission Counseling (NACAC) for details on upcoming college fairs. Visit Pennsylvania Association for College Admission Counseling (PACAC) for Pennsylvania specific college fairs.

Virtual College Tours

If you can’t make it to a college’s campus, youniversitytv offers video tours of every major college in the US. In many instances, the college website will also offer photo and video tours of campus. Penn State – University Park provides an example with a comprehensive and interactive virtual tour.
