Brandon Graham’s Message to Philadelphia Students: “College Gets You Ready for the Real World”
If a Philly Eagles legend tells you to go to college, you pay attention. Brandon Graham, defensive end, Super Bowl champ, and Detroit guy who calls Philly home, sat down with PhillyGoes2College and just laid it out—real talk about scholarships, getting ready for college, and why the whole process matters, not just where you end up.
In just a couple minutes, BG covers what Philly students really need to know—how to get to college, how to pay for it, and how to actually make it count.
Why College Matters (According to Brandon Graham)
“After high school, I’m telling you, college is it,” Brandon says. “You got to be able to move around and know what’s really out here. Going to college definitely gets you ready for that next step in life.”
Brandon went from Detroit to the University of Michigan on a full football scholarship, majoring in sports management and communications. But what he’s saying isn’t just for athletes. It’s for every Philly student out here trying to figure out what comes next.
Brandon’s Scholarship Strategy: “Get All the Money You Can”
Here’s how Brandon thinks about scholarships:
“Make sure that you get all the scholarship money that you can. Figure out what scholarships you’re eligible for, and just make sure you go out there and be you, do it the way you do it. Don’t have no regrets.”
Translation? Don’t leave money on the table. Whether you’re an athlete, an artist, an academic star, or just trying to make it work, there are scholarships out there with your name on them.

“You Got to Believe in You More Than They Do”
Brandon says something in the video that really sticks:
“Nobody’s gonna care when you’re grown. So make sure you do it while you’re still young. People are still willing to give because they still believe in you. But you’ve got to believe in you more than they do. So you’ve got to make sure you do the work.”
This is the kind of real talk Philly students need. There are people who want to help—teachers, counselors, mentors, PG2C—but you’ve got to meet them halfway. Do the work. Apply for the scholarships. Show up for yourself.
Brandon’s Favorite College Memory (And Why It Matters)
When asked about his favorite college moment, Brandon didn’t talk about football championships or big games. Instead, he highlighted something deeper:
“The moments of hanging out with the fellas senior year, knowing that it’s almost over, and trying to enjoy every second. When you get to senior year, and it’s almost close to being over, you’re going to realize how nice it was that you went to college because you’re going to have so many good memories that you’re going to talk about for years to come.”
College isn’t just about the degree or the job you get after. It’s about the people you meet, the ways you grow, and the experiences that shape you. Brandon’s reminding students to actually be there for it, soak it up, and make memories you’ll talk about for years.
Brandon’s Journey: University of Michigan
School: University of Michigan
Scholarship: Full ride (football)
Major: Sports Management and Communications
NFL Draft: 2010, Philadelphia Eagles (Round 1, Pick 13)
Career: Super Bowl LII Champion, Eagles defensive leader
Brandon’s story shows what happens when you mix talent, hard work, and actually use the resources out there—scholarships, mentors, all of it. But his point is simple: you don’t have to be headed for the NFL to make college work for you.

The Bottom Line
