Jarrick “Floating Yogi” Browner: Small Habits, Big Impact for Students, Families, and Educators
At SXSW EDU, we sat down with Jarrick Browner, also known as “The Floating Yogi.” He leads Urban Yogic Wellness & Education (UEIE) and teaches simple daily habits for the mind, body, and energy.
🧠 Jarrick’s message is simple: start small. Try one minute of quiet before brushing your teeth. Add movement between tasks. Take three deep breaths before the next class. These tiny habits help students, parents, and educators feel calm, think clearly, and stay focused.
💬 “We’re building a pocket of peace,” he said. “When life gets loud, you can return to that calm.”
👨🏾🏫 Jarrick also spoke on the power of Black male educators. “We’re always visible. When we model calm and care, students open up. They learn how to manage stress and get to the root of what they feel.”
💪 In class, try small resets: stand and stretch, walk for 30 seconds, or breathe before starting the next activity. Over time, these habits help students manage anxiety about college, FAFSA, and big life choices.
🧭 Jarrick’s path wasn’t straight. He worked at UPS, studied yoga to heal his knees, and found a system he could practice anywhere. He says yoga gave him focus, kindness, and strength—skills he now shares with students and teachers.
