Caiden’s Corner | A Review of the National Partnership for Educational Access (NPEA) Conference

May 2, 2025

Hi! My name is Caiden, and I’m the Collegiate Collaborator here at PhillyGoes2College! I’ll be occasionally sharing some pictures of events we cover. In early April, I had the privilege of attending the 2025 National Partnership for Educational Access (NPEA) Conference right here in Philadelphia. It was amazing to be there as the Collegiate Collaborator, but it was almost more eye-opening as a student.

I feel like, too often, there is an outdated idea that students should just get to college on their own — without help. I don’t believe in that, and I imagine that the hundreds of attendees at the NPEA Conference don’t either.

From this conference, I learned that there are so many avenues we can take as students, but most importantly, none of them have to be taken alone. PhillyGoes2College interviewed over a dozen speakers and attendees, one of which included keynote speaker André Robert Lee. His work as a film producer was so interesting to hear about — and you will have the privilege of watching that interview soon! Personally, I have no interest in the film world. It’s foreign to me. His emphasis on making connections spoke to me, and I think it’s so important to highlight.

To all of you, make connections! My best advice for high schoolers is not to study vigorously or read all day and night, though I do think you should study and do your homework. Honestly, I suggest getting close to your teachers, counselors, and administrators. Those people will write your letters of recommendation for college. Plus, it’s always nice to have a trusted adult to talk to at school.

I’m the one who makes scholarship posts for all of you, and another piece of advice is to look at them! Not to brag, but I think they’re pretty good. More importantly, those will help you pay for college. Some of them will even introduce you to different types of people who you wouldn’t otherwise meet. You’d be surprised at how few students apply for smaller scholarships. Don’t count yourself out!

Overall, the 2025 NPEA Conference was wonderful and informative — from keynote speakers to tabling events. If you’re a student in Philly, know that so many people are fighting to better your education, but they can’t do it alone! You have to fight for your education too! Show up to school, make connections where you can, step out of your comfort zone, and learn.

Best of luck,
Caiden
