Graduating 8th Grade Girls: Apply to the WINS Environmental Science Program by 2/15

January 16, 2023

Overview: Women In Natural Sciences (WINS) is a free after-school and summer science enrichment program at the Academy of Natural Sciences serving young women from underrepresented communities and households facing financial limitations within the Philadelphia School District.

Eligibility: WINS I is open to girls who will be graduating 8th grade with at least a B average who plan to attend a Philadelphia public or charter high school. Once students complete WINS I, they can participate in WINS II.

Program Details: WINS I begins in the summer after 8th grade with eight weeks of environmental exploration in and outside of the city. The summer concludes with an exciting weeklong trip to the Poconos where participants get a chance to apply the knowledge and skills obtained throughout the summer.

During the school year, weekly workshops and monthly field trips give participants the opportunity to be directly involved with the scientists, collections, and resources of the Academy. The program culminates in a seashore camping trip.

How to Apply: To apply, download the nomination form here. Ask a teacher, counselor, or family member to submit the nomination form on your behalf to ANS_WINS@drexel.edu by the February 15th deadline. After your nomination form is received, a WINS application form will be sent to you.
