Penn Summer Scholarships for School District of Philadelphia Students: Apply by 5/1

If you are a Philadelphia resident and attend a School District of Philadelphia public or charter high school, you may be eligible to attend Penn Summer Prep or a Penn Summer Academy free of charge with a Penn Summer Scholarship.

Scholarship: To be considered for the scholarship, submit an online application (see details below) for Penn Summer Prep or the Penn Summer Academy of your choice. As you complete the online application, when asked if you attend a School District of Philadelphia school, select ‘Yes.’ A supplemental form will be provided through the application system requesting financial details. Complete and return the form prior to the stated application deadline.

Who Should Apply: Both programs are open to current 9th-11th graders. A successful applicant should have:
• Minimum 3.3 high school GPA
• Writing that shows both technical skill and intellectual depth
• Strong recommendations
• A variety of extracurricular interests

How to Apply: Both programs have application deadlines of May 1st. Review the list of required materials and submit your application here. Note that there is an application fee, but applicants indicating that they are from the School District of Philadelphia will automatically have the application fee waived.

Penn Summer Prep: The Penn Summer Prep Program allows ambitious students to enroll in two undergraduate-level modules from across disciplines while benefiting from the rich educational resources of the University. Students will explore Penn’s broad liberal arts and sciences curriculum within a dynamic Ivy League learning environment. In addition to class time, students should be prepared to complete readings, group activities, or other coursework outside of the classroom. Penn Summer Academies: Penn Summer Academies are subject-intensive three-week programs. The science academies draw upon Penn’s cutting-edge technology and resources to provide innovative lab experiences, and the social academies draw upon the rich history and diversity of Philadelphia. Areas of study include Social Justice Research, Global Culture and Communication, and Biomedical Research. The program runs from July 10th-30th. Learn more here.
