The Bookworm Scholarship

November 8, 2019

The Bookworm Scholarship aims to support and inspire the next generation of readers. Books are universal and timeless; they have the ability to not only inspire us, but also teach us empathy for others as we recognize our common humanity.

Who is eligible to apply for the Bookworm Scholarship?

The Bookworm Scholarship is open to all residents of the United States. It has one important requirement: Applicants must be passionate readers who have been profoundly influenced by books. No matter what level of academic study you are at, or what your academic interests are, if you have something to share about how books made a difference in your life, you are eligible to apply!

If you are involved in extracurricular activities that involve books or reading (e.g. working or volunteering at libraries or organizing book clubs), please include that experience.

How do you apply for the Bookworm Scholarship?

This is an essay scholarship. Applicants should write a 500 to 1,000 word response to the following prompt:

“What’s a key lesson you’ve learned from a book, set of books, or author, and how has this lesson shaped what you hope to achieve in your life?”

There are no limitations regarding the book or author you choose. The most important thing is to share your story! This is a chance to reflect on all you have learned from reading as you share your hopes and dreams for the future.

How much is the Bookworm Scholarship worth?

The scholarship will be awarded in the form of a $1,000 check made out to the winner and the academic institution the winner attends.

When is the application for the Bookworm Scholarship due?

The application deadline is January 1, 2020 by 9:00PM. Winners will be announced on Jan 30, 2020.

Still have questions? Email contact@bold.org and they will respond to you as soon as possible.

Best of luck, readers!
