Building Futures: Richard Lee Snow on UNCF’s Impact & Supporting Philly Students 🎓
At the UNCF Women of Faith in Education event, we had the privilege of speaking with Richard Lee Snow, Regional Development Director for the United Negro College Fund (UNCF). For more than seven years, Richard has led fundraising efforts across Pennsylvania, Delaware, New Jersey, and West Virginia, helping thousands of students access life-changing opportunities.
UNCF’s Impact in Philadelphia
In 2024 alone, UNCF awarded $2.4 million in scholarships to more than 200 students living in or attending school in the Philadelphia area. But UNCF’s support goes beyond scholarships — students also gain access to internships, career development programs, and mentorship to help them succeed in and beyond college.
The Power of HBCUs
Richard passionately emphasized the role of Historically Black Colleges and Universities (HBCUs):
“Over 70% of Black lawyers and 60% of Black doctors attended HBCUs. These schools have always been a cornerstone for our communities, offering access to education when opportunities were limited — and they remain just as critical today.”
Why Community Support Matters
Events like the UNCF Women of Faith Afternoon Tea are more than beautiful gatherings — they are essential fundraisers that connect Philadelphia’s faith community with UNCF’s mission:

As the first in his family to graduate college, Richard understands firsthand the transformative power of higher education.
