Next Steps AmeriCorps: Community Service Work Study for College Sophomores/Juniors

Overview: 

The Next Steps AmeriCorps Program trains and supports Pell-eligible students by engaging them in service and mentoring. Seventy selected students will serve as interns in a community organization 10 hours per week and attend bi-weekly supervision/reflection sessions with the rest of the group. Next Steps members will also spend two hours per week mentoring two incoming first year students, coaching them through the transition from high school to college.

Students who enroll in this program and successfully complete the 300 hours of service, mentoring, and training, will receive an AmeriCorps Award of $1,342.86. Students who have Federal Work-Study as part of their financial aid package will also be eligible to use their work study award as a regular stipend during their AmeriCorps term of service.

Eligibility: The program is open to Pell-eligible undergraduate sophomores or juniors attending one of the colleges/universities listed below. Preference will be given to local graduates of public high schools. See additional qualifications here.

When: The program will start on August 20, 2022 and end on May 30, 2023.
