$40,000 Umps Care Scholarship for Students Adopted After Age 13 Due 5/13

April 11, 2022

Background: Education is an important part of life. In baseball terms, it gives you a healthy lead as you round the bases. But not everyone gets the same opportunity for higher education. The UMPS CARE Charities All-Star College Scholarship is for children adopted later in life in order to provide a college education to students who otherwise might not be able to afford one.

Award: Each year, one student will be selected to receive the scholarship. This student will be eligible to receive up to $10,000 annually to go towards tuition, books, and other college-related expenses. Additionally, the recipient is paired with an MLB umpire and his family who will provide mentorship throughout the student’s time in college. Scholarship winners receive phone calls, care packages and on-field experiences at Big League ballparks.

Eligibility: The scholarship is open to children adopted at or after the age of 13 (or who have exited foster care to permanent guardianship). Students must demonstrate financial need through the FAFSA Application and must be incoming college freshmen under the age of 20.

How to Apply: Students can apply here by the May 13th deadline. Be sure to request your three letters of recommendation in plenty of time before the deadline.
