5th-12th Grade Musicians: Apply by 4/1 to Philadelphia Music Alliance for Youth (PMAY)

The Philadelphia Music Alliance for Youth (PMAY) Artists’ Initiative program is now accepting applications for Fall 2023.

Eligibility: The PMAY Artists’ Initiative accepts applications from rising 5th through 12th grade students from backgrounds that are underrepresented within the professional orchestra field, including Black/African-American, Latinx, Native American, Alaskan Native, South Asian, Southeast Asian and/or Pacific Islander. Students who may identify differently may also qualify if they experience adversity such as economic disadvantages or will be the first in their family to attend college.

This program is for the following orchestral instruments:
• Violin, viola, cello, double bass
• Flute, clarinet, oboe, bassoon
• Trumpet, horn, trombone/bass trombone, tuba
• Percussion
• Harp

Program Overview: PMAY develops and prepares students to be accepted into top-tier conservatory, college, or university classical music programs in preparation for careers as professional musicians. Applicants must be highly driven, dedicated and practice at least ten hours each week outside of rehearsal and lesson time. Students are also required to attend concerts, engage with mentors, and attend other events intended to help prepare them for college and beyond. 11th and 12th graders must be preparing for conservatory, college or university auditions to major in music.

How to Apply: Students must submit an application form and an audition video. You can access the application here and learn more about your video submission here. Videos are due by April 1st for priority deadline but students may submit after this deadline for consideration if a spot opens or to be placed on the waitlist.
